Ignition Push Button Question

Well, so i finally picked up my project truck today

and theres No keys for it...

Can i pull the ignition and install a push button start?

or do i still have to have a key?

This isnt a daily driver. And down the road (maybe a year) it will be flat towed behind my explorer, so maybe a steering column that doesnt lock a good idea?

and thoughts, info?

Well, I don't know about the mechanical interlocks and such, but I'd say you're on the right track. I know I've heard you need the key to remove the ignition cylendar.

What year is it?

i could be wrong, but the key puts power to the system to start without being able to steal it, to put a push button in correctly it runs off the power wire from the ignition, you need the key to get power to the button to start the system
Buttt-bypass all that and run power wire to push button and bam, it should work, same principle as hot wiring, only down fall, any joe smoe can get in your truck and go, unless you put in toggle switches in the power line so it wont start unless switch is on

Ok, so PATS shouldn't be an issue then. Haha, my stepdad an an F-150 about that vintage that he started with a screwdriver.

That has the advantage of deceiving too, if you can keep from busting it up. Everyone thinks you need a key but you don't. Good old security through obscurity.
