Incorrect tach reading..
Incorrect tach reading..
Well so I have had this problem for about a year now and just today my tach decided to fix itself for about 1 hour and read the proper reading for my RPM's but when i turned it off and got back in after work it was back to what it used to do, which is, when i start my truck my tach shoots up to 3000 RPM's and stays there till i accelerate, where it moves ever so slightly till i gun it eventually reading the actual rpm's most likely after 5000 rpm's but then when i let off it drops back to 3000 rpm's and personally i think its a loose wire after what happened today but i just wanted to get everyone's input before i tore my dash apart.
It is most likely a sticking needle. Take it apart and pull the needle out a tiny bit from the face. If they are put on too far they rub.
Happens a lot when people modify their gauges like when they do overlays and so forth. But it could come that way also.
