would this be similar to installing an intake where you have to disconnect the battery for the computer to reset?

i was thinking by doing so, that is changing the exhaust, this is causing a lean(er) that the computer is sensing as a malfunction...does this make sense to anyone?

The headers are not enough to trigger a CEL. Maybe you forgot to plug something in or you damaged a sensor.

No, the mass air meter measures the airflow into the engine and the PCM adds the correct amount of fuel to match. You'll have to do a lot more to the engine than headers before the PCM hits the fuel clip. My 4.0 had JBA's for 2 years and never had a CEL.

There is no need to do a reset for headers or an air intake change. The PCM will learn the new fuel trims just as fast if you don't.

I agree with what has already been said: recheck the installation and get the trouble code(s) pulled.

When I installed my own headers.. I had no issues at all.. the most annoying part of te whole ordeal was having to extend my EGR piping another 2 inches or so.. but even that wasnt all too bad.

^x2 I had mine installed at a local shop, and the guy who installed them said "I have been putting headers on vehicles for 12 years and that 1 was the easiest and smoothest install I have done." Just extend the egr like Mike said and no probs. My install took 20 Min..

Also check vacuum lines. I had an o2 sensor supposedly go bad, replaced it, and had the same code come up after 20 min. of driving. Then I checked vacuum lines and found prob. 3' piece of hose had a hole worn in it. So be sure to check the vacuum lines before getting a new o2 sensor...It'll save you money....

JBA headers have been hard to get. Underdog has two sets for 4.0 with drivers side egr, and one set for a 3.0. I've literally waited 8 weeks and longer to get them. This has been happening since last November. Once I sell these, I don't anticpipate restocking them until things smooth out on their end.

that sucks. you carry another brand headers too correct? I know I love my JBAs, I thought the quality was great and they are holding up very well.

no, just jba. The only other manufacturer is Gibson, then for the 3.0 guys there are some headers popping up on ebay for $200 or so. You can't specify egr on the ebay ones. Can't remember if they are with or without egr.

JBA was bought out by Pertronix. they shut down for a month to make the transaction and have been "severely" behind since then. I think its been close to a year and they still haven't got their house in order.

Mac performance has been similarly disorganized. Waiting a month or two for product has not been uncommon.

Crane went out of business, so no more products from them.

How did you do that?!?! I'm having the same egr issue, and I need to bend my dipstick tube. I want to be able to do this without having to pay more for the guy at the muffler shop to do it when I get new pipes.
