Intermittent check engine light - 2002 Ranger (100,000 miles)

Howdy,

im wondering if anyone has any insight as to why my check engine light will periodically come on and flash when I let the truck idle in park for more than 5 or 10 minutes.

hoping to determine what the issue is before it gets too cold up here in South Dakota. I hate getting into freezing vehicles in the winter, but I won’t feel good about letting the interior warm up to my satisfaction if I don’t resolve the check engine issue.

any thoughts are appreciated

Welcome to the forum

Flashing CEL means misfires are occurring at that time

Have the codes read or get a Bluetooth OBD2 reader they are cheap, I think ELM327 is like $15, APPS are free or $5(these work on ANY vehicle 1996 and up, its the law, not a Ford thing)
WRITE DOWN any codes, "I think it was................." is useless, need exact code numbers as displayed

Full code list here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...II_codes.shtml

What engine do you have?
2.3l 4cyl, or 3.0l V6 or 4.0l V6, it matters
