Key Fob Programming Doesn't "Stick"

2011 Ranger XLT 4x2 Single Cab. Removed truck battery last summer to clean up some corrosion. After replacing truck battery I noticed that keyless remote fob wasn't working anymore. Went through the steps to reprogram the fob and the fob seems to work during the programming process, but then doesn't work after I turn off the key. Here are the events I'm experiencing: 1) push unlock on closed drivers side door, 2) insert key, 3) turn on/off 8 times quickly, 4) the power locks cycle, 5) push lock button on fob, 6) the power locks cycle, 7) turn off key, and 8) power locks cycle again. So it seems like the fob gets programmed as it triggers the locks when you push a button to program, but then the truck resets everything at the end and then the fob doesn't work anymore. I've tried variations with driver's side door open, closed, window down, etc... Is this a lost cause - might something be broken? Thanks in advance for any insight you all can offer!

Are you leaving the key on 'run' during the 8th cycle?

Yes. Leaving the key on run on the 8th on/off sequence, which is when the locks cycle.

Yes, this fob worked before I removed the truck battery to clean the compartment.

Do you have any other fobs to try? Unless you reprogrammed them along with this one, they won't work any more and you'll have to reprogram them.

In order to add a fob, you must do all the fobs together.... program the new one and reprogram all the existing ones.

This is the only fob I have. It is aftermarket and did work before I removed the truck battery. The part I don't get is that the truck clearly recognizes the fob during programming, as the locks work when I push "any button" to sync them. It is the second lock cycle after the programming that seems different from when I originally programmed this fob (early last year). Thanks for the ideas though.

I'd just buy another fob first. They really aren't that much money.
