Key FOB module
Key FOB module
I have recently acquired a 2003 Ranger XLT 4.0. 4X4. It was my fathers and he passed away a year ago. Now after all the probate bull@#it I was able to buy it. It has power windows and locks and anti theft. I only received 2 keys for it with no FOB. I was wondering how I can go about finding if it has the keyless entry module? I am not sure if that is what it is called. If someone could direct me as where to look for the location I would appreciate it!

Welcome to the forum
I assume it has power door locks and they work using the buttons on the doors
There is a procedure to erase and then add Key Fobs to a keyless entry system
Doing this would be the simplest way to tell if Keyless entry module(RAP) is in the vehicle
Sit in drivers seat, doors locked
Cycle key on and off 8 times quickly, end up in the ON position
Have to do it in under 10 seconds
Door locks should unlock and then lock again if you have a keyless entry module, you are in programming mode
Turn key off
If door locks cycled then buy a key fob or two and do the same procedure
But this time after the door locks cycle press either the lock or unlock button of a fob, locks will cycle again if RAP module accepted the code, then do the same button press on a 2nd or 3rd key fob, locks will cycle if code was learned
Then turn key off
Test if fob works
Just a heads up, when you do the key on and off 8 times and door locks cycle..........that ERASES ALL FOBS, so you have to add all the fobs you want to use back
This is for safety in case someone steals a fob, you can erase it so it will no longer unlock vehicle
As another heads up, keys with fob part in the handle won't fit in your ignition, too wide, so have to use the separate fobs
