LED Headlights

Forgive me for what maybe a stupid question.

My 1990 Ranger has dim headlights since I bought it and I have been looking to update them. Before making the investment I wanted to check if I can just buy LED bulbs and swap out the old ones or do I have to change the entire headlamp assembly in order to use LEDs?

Thanks in advance :)

Although most LED headlight bulbs are designed to just pop in and replace the OEM halogens with no modifications, depending on the brand/style you buy you can run into issues with the heat sinks not fitting. Before you purchase a set do a few things first. #1 see how much room you have directly behind the headlight bulbs in the grill/engine compartment area. If it's a tight fit you may have issues or need to look for bulbs with a small heat sink. #2 do your homework on the different brands and styles. There's tons of garbage out there so you really need to make sure you buy a decent set.

I went with gtr lighting gen 3. I had to get different housings though. They didn't play nicely with the stock housings. New housings give a nice cutoff with low beams with minimal glare and high beams are pretty good. Was expensive though. Like the others said you need to get a good set. You also need to do a little research on the configuration of the leds on the "bulb" and the style of housing you're going to be using.
