Didn't find much with search (may just be blind), but not much about bulbs, especially LED bulbs. This is weird - it seems to be a major subject of debate on other car and motorcycle forums I've belonged to.

In specific, the brake light in my 1996 occasionally sticks on - or magically comes on - after parking. I've started tying the brake pedal up to the steering wheel, but have forgotten. Was thinking about replacing the brake light bulbs (3157) with LEDs so that at least it won't kill the battery so quick as incandescent bulbs. Was ready to buy some bulbs off of Amazon, but then ran across some bulbs described as "3157 LED Bulbs for Back Up Reverse Lights, CANBUS Error Free, 20W 4000Lumens, CSP 6-SMD Upgraded 6500K High Brightness 3156 3056". Is this even an issue with these old Rangers?

While we're at it, has anybody sourced an electronic replacement flasher that will work with LED bulbs for this vehicle? I'm not even sure where the thing is or I'd just pull it.

4000 lumens? I find that hard to believe.

 

Why not just fix the issue instead of throwing parts at it....

 

I'd start with the brake light switch.

 

Both are correct answers. My guess is that either the brake light switch is not installed correctly (looks new) or the little plastic bushing on the end of the shaft is worn out.

It's been cold and I've been sick with covid, so better surfing the net for lightbulbs than crawling under the dash of my truck. Feeling better though, so might look tomorrow. I'm on a 'forced' vacation from work anyway. LOL
