If in doubt about what axle type you have, use this info:

I have an older Ranger, but it is the 8.8" axle with 3.73 gearing and L/S, from factory. And I'm 100% certain because I just replaced the L/S clutches last fall. I have a 1991 Ranger XLT.

Rear L/S was available on your Ranger as a factory option.
