Loss of forward momentum at speeds above 70mph
Hello everyone. I'm new to the Forum and new to Ford as well. I recently bought a 2004 Ranger 4.0 liter 5 speed 4x4. I have noticed that while driving at speeds above 70mph the truck's forward momentum drops slightly. The tach does not flucuate, but I can feel the engine trip up for just a second. This issue does not happen continuous but randomly; I would say once every 30 seconds to once every few minutes. This issue occurs both with the AC on and off and does not happen at lower speeds or gears.
The truck was purchased used (obviously) from a dealer and I am uncertain as to the level of maintiance performed prior to my purchasing it, but they have assured me that the vehicle passed their multi-point inspection... yeah right. From what I can tell, the engine is stock and their are no after-market or mods.
I have spoken with another fellow Ranger owner and he has a similar issue. I just want some ideas as to what is causing this issue and how to fix it before I start replacing random parts. BTW, the truck as about 75K miles. Thanks for all your help.

I have a feeling that its the stock coil pack. I have thought about the demon coil pack with my thunder volt plug wires.... just a thought..... what does everyone else think?
