MAF Cleaning help

Well I felt this was more of a general issue than something specific to my truck, I searched and found nothing helpful, so here we go .....

My check engine light came one two (Now three) tanks ago. I get code P0171 (System too lean .... bank one I think). I read one OBDIICodes.com (IIRC) that it may be a dirty maf and if it isnt that it could be a bad O2. So I am trying to clean the maf before i try anything else. I went to advanced and got the CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaning .... cleaner. Are there any Do's and Dont's to cleaning the MAF?

If you follow the directions on the can, you should be good to go. It could be the o2 sensor if thats the read depending on your mileage.

Just take it off and spray the ****.

Just use common sense and make sure its compley dry before you reinstall it.

Spray the filaments and let it air dry. Do not touch them (with a rag or whatever to dry it) or else you'd need to get a new one.

Little update: I have cleaned the MAF and the light has not come back on. Hoping it won't but if so it will be o2 time. I did get my truck inspector done and it passed. So now that light can come on all it wants! Haha. Thanks for the help.
