So i have a 2008 ranger, and the past couple of days, my heater hasnt been working. I have let the truck warm up for sure but even after 20 minutes of running, i can turn on my heater, and it will blow cold air.

Anyone got any ideas?

After the truck is fully warmed up , feel both heater hoses.
One will have a valve in it that opens to allow coolant through the heater core.
If it's not working = no heat .

 

You have an 08 and it's already having issues? This alone raises concern. While the first thing I would be checking for is a stuck open thermostat, I'm forced to wonder if your truck isn't still under warranty.

Anyway, I have a similar problem. Dunno if this will help you or not. My heater blows cold air for the first few (like 10) seconds of operation, then it starts to warm up. I'm assuming it's my heater core (which I have yet to replace) as per the advice of this forum.

BTW: Are you leaking antifreeze?

 

Noticed mine quit working yesterday on a road trip - could be similar problem. I tried to adjust the AC to a warmer setting, but vent temp stayed the same (ice cold) and when I tried the heater set to full "hot" all I had was outside air temp...no heat. All the dash, defroster, floor vents seem to work correctly when switched, but the only thing that isn't working is the temperature control. Any clues on what that could be?

 

Not sure what solved OP's problem or if anyone gives a crap, but mine is now fixed. For late models with low miles that have this problem (eliminating the possibility of a clogged heater core and see no fault with thermostat, coolant level or heat control valve) check the electronic blend door actuator behind glove box. Holding the old actuator in my hand and moving the temp control made no difference, while the known good test actuator moved every time the temp switch was rotated - my actuator was locked in "cold" position.

 

Are you still under any warranty?

 

Not yet made it to 36 months, but I'm still 3,000 miles over. Only cost me $32.75 to fix it myself so I'm happy.

 

That aint bad at all lol. What ended up being the issue? If your only 3000 miles over they sometimes will give you a break. or at least they did for my dads car which is a GM.

 

It was the electronic blend door actuator, it died in the "cold" position.

 

I have a 2005 ranger edge 3.0 v6 and my heater is blowing cold air. ( changed my thermostat, heater valve, and my radiator is full ) Idk any suggestions? Thanks

 

I have a 1999 ford ranger that the heater doesn't blow hot air. Thermostat is ok, heater core is not plugged up. It has been working all winter. Yesterday the outside air temperature warmed up to 50 degrees so I turned my heat control to cool. Now when I turn back to heat nothing changes. I don't think it is my blend door because there is no sound coming from the actuator when I change the temperature control. I've had this problem for a while but it was summer and I didn't need the heat. It seems that when I turn the temperature to cool the switch doesn't go back to heat. It used to go back eventually but this time it hasn't gone back yet. Does the Rangers have a problem with the climate controls?

 

blend door motor needs replaced

 

My guess would be a blend door. Possible vacuum leak to cause the door not to move back. You should start a new thread for this issue rather than bump a 4 year old one. You'll get a better response

 

I've got a 2008 that had a "stuck" blend door. I noted that about in October when I went from "cool" to "hot" on the heater control, I kept getting cool air. Moving the heater control back and forth, I could hear the vinly gear teeth on the blend door and door motor clashing. A few days later I was driving on I-75 and hit rough sections and I moved the heater control back and forth while driving over it - and it broke the door free, although it is a bit our of snyc. I also note now, 4 months later, that the blend door still sometimes seems to "jam" when turning the heater control while the blower motor is on. However, if I turn the blower motor off first, and then turn the heater control to a different position, it moves the blend door and changes the amount of heat being discharged to the cabin.

 

If the truck is not overheating, you can rule out the thermostat, as if it were sticking closed, your heater not working would be the least of your worries; your engine temps would be pegged.

In the case of the heater not working, but engine temps are "normal", its going to either be the blend door (behind the glovebox; squeeze in the sides to drop it down to gain access), or the valve in the engine compartment that permits the flow of coolant to the heater core.
