Red/white 1 wire is for dash temp gauge, the sender

The grey/red 2 wire unit is the temp sensor, only used by computer

So I know the stray connector is for my gauge but did I label the sender and sensor locations right in my picture?

I fixed the gauge! The confusing thing is why the hell they installed a second temp gauge, connector, and weird *** sender. The wire, gauge and ‘sender’ were all directly connected to each other with the ‘sender’ looking like a plunger with a nut on top that slides through and screws onto a separate piece of the ‘sender’, which is then screwed into the engine coolant. I haven’t seen anything like it lol I’ll have to take pics and post them tomorrow coz it’s dark now. But I now have an accurate reading on my original temp gauge that rises and drops appropriately, and I can take out the weird ***, inconvenient one they put in! 😁

I’m actually hoping this is it bc I’m going to just throw in new lights and see what happens, just wondered if there could be some ‘known’ cause for them all going out. But I guess they could’ve just died coz their old as heck lol

Hey, I have seen those "peel and stick" lights above clusters to light them up at night, Walmart $10 for 2, lol
Some people just won't pull the cluster out to replace bulbs, so yes they all could be burned out

Only thing all 6 bulbs have in common is the Dimmer wheel, but it appears to be working

In my experience with Ranger dash lights, i put them in, loosely. installed the wires onto the cluster, but did not bolt the cluster in. I had to find the sweet spot of tightening the bulb so they would work. Too tight and they would go back out. That's what happened the first time I did it. I put the bulbs in too tightly, and they went back out. Took some thinking to figure that out. Hope it helps.

That makes sense I will definitely keep that in mind when I put the new ones in!

Yo check out this weird *** sender that was in there. I couldn’t find anything like it!

See how it’s two pieces and the ‘measuring part’ is connected straight to the wire?? Weird as heck!

It's the sending unit of this temp gauge, and it's not a wire, it's a mercury filled tube.

Lmao well at least now I know what the heck that thing was 😂 What makes those go bad? Does the mercury run out, leak or is it usually an electrical issue?

This is probably exactly what happened. But anyways I installed the new lights.. and wallah!

Even managed to take out the weird gauge and fixed my gear shifter/Positioner with some zip ties while I was down there! But now... a new issue popped up; I have a beeping sound that lasts about a minute coming from the passenger side when I first start the truck! What could this be?? I noticed the airbag light turned off if that could mean anything?
