No Tach in 99 ranger...Will a 2001 cluster w/ a tach plug in and work?

Yep, selling my old guages on ebay. I got a question from a guy who has a 99' Ranger with no Tach. He is wanting to know if my guages (with a tach.) will plug in and work?

I dont know for sure, but i do remeber, John Moorhead put a Sport Track Cluster in his truck, and it didnt have a tach. But i dont know if he had to wire it in or if it just plugged right into the old harness.

Thanks

im sure you can hook it up with some modding because it should be that same as adding a tach to your truck...

but im 99% sure that it wont be a direct connection...

Yup. I have an 00 Ranger with No Tach. Swapped in an Explorer Sport Trac cluster that has a Tach and it works beautifully, plug and play.

I Have a 97 with no tach, Im looking around for a newer cluster with a tach.
do you just unplug the old one and plugin the new one, everything works (fuel, temp, speedo, tach) without any other wiring?

I don't know about the 97 but im sure there have been other people that have done that. Not to sound like a dick, try the search though cause I don't and someone might have asked it. Unless anyone below me can answer.

I have a 97 that did not have a tach. I swapped in an 01 Ranger cluster and it works perfectly without modification.

It should be mentioned, however, that you will need to make sure the odometer is correct after the swap. I chose to swap the speedometer/odometer guts between the two clusters. The problem in doing that is you have to remove and then reinstall the speedometer needle which can be a little bit of a pain to get right. I drove down the road with a GPS receiver and pressed the needle on to match what the GPS said. Other than the odometer thing, yea, its a clean swap.

Just thought I should elaborate a little...

Why would you need to make sure the odometer is correct? It will work if it is, or isint. Just a preference if you want correct mileage.

becasue if you ever want to sell the vechicle you have to tell them you have a different mileage then what the odo sells, and BAM! the price of the vechicle drops accouple thousand
