before i start I have a 2009 Ford ranger Sport 4X4 with the 4.0L and yes I read the above topic on how to wire these lights and i do know how to wire them I'm mounting these lights onto the top of my back rack and then i'll run the cabling under the truck and into the engine compartment. my question is were is the hole to put the wires through into the cab i've had a few people look threw my ranger and so far no one could find a place to slip the wire through to the cab so i can mount my switch.

 

Shouldn't there be rubber plugs in the back wall?

 

The gromet for the parking brake cable worked nicely.

 

I ran mine through the rubber plug that is on the driver side floor board.

 

is there any chance i could get some pics of these locations the newer ones have alot of crap runnign all over the place i was oging to run it through with the main wiring harness but it is located right under the fuse box and i don't want to have to remove it also what is the best way to get through those rubber grommets.

 

I used a sharp knife to punch a hole in the gromet for the parking brake cable. I've done this in my current '03 and all my other rangers for all my miles of wiring for everything. The wire harness's are not suitable since they are not gromets, they are solid plugs.

 

Fallow the factory harness

 

No pic to hard to see but on my 2003 there are plugs you can use on the firewall toward the driver's side.

Pick a Plug, determine the location on the other side of the firewall and check it out.
If there are no moving parts going through the plug then use it.

 

I went thruogh my Steering boot.... GENIOUS move on my part... LOL


Not that I have had any problems, but Bob came up with a WAY better solution.

Remove the Engine compartment fuse box and toss it aside... then, double, triple and quadruple check the area behind that and the inside to ensure you dont drill into anything remotely important.

Then drill like 5 holes. Use one with a rubber gromet, and fill the others with 4 bolts...

And viola! Expandability.

Also, can you post pics of your backrack and how it attaches to the bed?

 

^^That's my setup...kinda. I've got two 3/4" drilled holes there with grommets because I have planned a crapton of wires coming through the firewall.

 

Are you using one of the grommets that closes in on itself; I think Painless uses them ?
