OHC Mod

I know there will be people that think it is crazy to do this but I pulled the OHC apart and added some switches.

I purchased an OHC with less than desirable electrical connections and a burn lamp socket, these problems were not mentioned in the original ad but I have it and will work with it.

I removed the Temp/Compass/Sw Panel and made a new face plate that will hold four toggle switches in the location of the display and two lower profile toggles in the Map Light Sw location; no sw for BOTH Lights.

Just a thought, make it look the same but different.

Still need to add the LEDs, the holes have been drilled, cutting the rear panel as we speak.

The rear compartment which would have for the Garage Door Opener will have an aluminum panel and my Amateur Radio Tri-Band Face Plate attached.

Thanks for reading.

They are there now !

I may have to make another front panel, the LED holes do not look straight.

cool deal. tri-band, eh? do you ever venture out of VHF/UHF at all? I have WAS on 40m, and routinely chat around the southeast on 80m. There's also a guy in Maine that often checks into our 80m net in the evenings.

I'm in the process of modifying my "cubby" space to mount my radio. I have a dual-bander (currently on the repair bench; finals just "went out" when a friend was borrowing it... :() with a removeable face plate, as well.. but my OHC came complete and functional, so I didn't want to carve it up too much! ...although, I did install a small toggle switch to control the power to the GPS battery charger circuit that I snuck into the innards of my OHC. I kept the 'garage door opener' section fairly clean, with room to house my sunglasses. :-)

PS: if you were to type a bracket [, followed by IMG and a closing bracket ] at the beginning of those image URLs, then put a /IMG inside a similar pair of brackets at the end of those URLs, then your pictures would appear within the message. Easier still, use the "bulletin board post" line from photobucket and copy and paste it directly into your message as you're editing it, and it'll include the surrounding IMG tags automatically.

Well, first learn how to spell, well it isn't the spelling it is using the correct spelling for a particular word, then I might be able to understand what you are trying to say...

Second, don't look at the pics, it is that easy, then you won't have to click on anything.
I do not know how to attach a photo directly to the site and I believed I was saving space on the site for other things.

As far as wasting the OHC, What do you gain by putting one in anyway ? A Temp Sensor, a compass so you know what direction you are going in ?
Most people put them in for looks and mine at first glance says OHC, but wait there is a difference with this one.
The light is still there and yes it will be LEDs when completed, I know why waste time doing that there already is a lighting device in there...

AND lastly, I bought this OHC from a site member AND it was damaged as received, so rather than make a problem for anyone and save me some grief, I decided to do this mod it instead.
Once the HAM Radio Face Plate is mounted in the rear compartment I will post more pics.
The biggest thing as I tell others on their projects, do it the way you like it !
I didn't buy the OHC with any intent to keep it stock, that's not me.

ltr,

p.s. Downey, thanks for the compliment.

Not much anymore, I am more of an Emergency HAM now, maybe once I get some free time.

I tried the brkt thing and it didn't work, I will have to learn more about posting pics off of Photo Bucket to keep everyone happy.
I copied your info and will try later or maybe on the next pic post.

Thanks for the ideas.

Yup ARRL is a good one and there are plenty others, search the web for HAM Radio, Amateur Radio etc.

What we are talking about is Amateur Radio, talking to the world but in this case we are talking local stuff on VHF/UHF FM; not AM as with CBs. Clear clean communication like we you would be talking to someone in your living room and if needed on 1500 watts legally, nice.
On some days when there is a thermal inversion on the coast I have talk to South America from my truck on 145 mhz. A thermal inversion causes a tunnel effect in the atmosphere and the signal travel down the tunnel to where ever the tunnels ends and there you are talking to someone. In this case the local communications become world wide.

HAM Radio is intense there are so many avenues you can take from local communications to satellite work on split frequencies (transmit one one frequency and receive on another) and the one I like the most Emergency Communication supporting the Red Cross and other Groups. The only thing is you need the license to be legal and believe me if you are out there on HAM frequencies without a license someone will report you.

Getting the license is easier than most people think (No more Code), Find a local club, get the books, study a little and take the test, oh ya there is a small fee to cover the paper you use up and mailing.

I get carried away sorry for that, e-mail me if you have any questions: [email protected]

Have a good one,

ah.. okay. cool. you can talk to the space shuttle and/or international space station on 2m/440, as well -- you forgot to mention that! ;-)

anyway... nice work on the OHC. looking forward to seeing it after the radio is installed.
