Oil pressure gage dropped below peg

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger with a 3.0 liter V-6. The truck sat for several months. I went to gas up and when I turned off the motor I heard and actually saw the oil pressure gage "snap" below the peg where the needle would normally rest.
Now the needle is below the peg. It bottoms out when not running and hits the peg when running...
Has anyone seen this before? Thank you.

Thomas
