What is this black box, and do i need it? I need to take it out to weld a crack on my exhaust manifold.

No it does not.
edit: it did before but doesn't have it now

Well the box is for the air conditioning.

Im guessing that taking it out shouldn't cause any problems right?

its not for the ac its the heater core box

Well if you look at the first pic you see the 2 lines going into the truck. Thats for the heat. If you look at the top of that box under the hood you see a metal pipe thats bent shut. That was for the a/c. The black box is the evaporator or whatever you call it.

I thought the heater core was under the dash? And would taking it off require disconnecting the heater hoses?

Ok that makes sense, should i have to worry about anything leaking out when i take it off?
