Parking brake won't fully release

I have a 1998 4x4 Ranger. When I go to pull the parking brake release, it only comes about half way out. I then have to take my foot and pull it out the rest of the way. What might be causing this and how do I go about fixing it?

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

Parking brake cables, the rear ones. they have a spring that provides the tension to release the brake. Rust and time cause them to stick or wear out. Take off the drums and you'll see it, it's where it connects to the shoes.

Fixing is easy, just replace the left and right rear cables. Do both, if one is bad one will probably follow.

Mine had this problem too, my cable actually stretched so I bought a parking brake cable tensioner and all is good.
