Ok so im new i know this but i have been lurking sround the site for a bit now. I have never had a problem with my 99 With a 3.0. That is until yesterday.... I went to Subway to refresh my chunk, walked outside got in my truck hit the ignition and click..... click..... click..... WTF I figured it was a loose terminal or battery. Had my brother take me to get a new battery (terminals looked great). New battery and still click..... ugh. So i called one of my mechanic buddies and he was asking about the Theft light on the dash. And I noticed it would blink rapidly while trying to turn the key. He said call a locksmith and they can reprogram the whole system. So i did to the tune of 130.00 !!!! And now it works fine what causes this to happen i have seen a few threads with this problem but no answer. I dont really feel like shelling another 130.00 out.
I've seen it happen before and it is just that the computer for whatever reason "forgets" your keys and refuses to start the vehicle. FYI $130 is cheap. Around my parts that is more like a $300 fix. Glad I don't do automotive anymore, way too many headaches. Also, our keys do not have a battery in them. The transponder in the truck emits a frequency and excites a chip in your key pulling a specific electrical resistance through the key. Get the right resistance and key cuts and your car starts.
