Pats removed from computer I swaped the auto to manual
My 98 ranger don't have pats but the truck I got the trans computer a wire harness from is a 99 with pats system computer won't work how do I get it removed from computer
Welcome to the forum
Call local Speed Shops, they often know people who program Ford EEC-V computers, a programmer can delete PATS or change your 1998 computer to Manual, i.e. delete auto software
1999 Should have Type B PATS which means it had a separate PATS module above the Glove box hooked to the computer
2001 and up have Type E PATS in the computer, no separate module
Computer and PATS module were "married" at the factory, so you need BOTH from same vehicle to use a PATS key
IF(big if) you can get the PATS module from the 1999 vehicle you got computer from and its Transceiver(antenna around ignition key cylinder) and a PATS key for the 1999 vehicle, you could just tape the key in the transceiver and hook it all up and it would work just fine with 1998 keys.
But thats the only other way to do it.
There is no work around for PATS

Never used them or even heard of them but they say they can reprogram Ford computers

Your only real options are a matched ECM and PATS module pair or getting the PATS function removed. IMO, having the function removed sounds like the simplest bet.
What engine do you have? I do have a '99 3.0 ECM and PATS module in the garage somewhere.
