I have been thinking about swapping my 89' ranger from automatic to manual, please let me know if you think it is a good idea, or bad, and how hard it will be.
Thank you.

Tough one

I don’t know. Seems like a lot has to be added and changed. Wiring CPU I’d just buy one with manual as factory to see if I’d like manual vs automatic. Just my .02. Good luck.

Thank you. I have thought about getting a another ranger that's a manual, but this ranger was my Grandpa's and he passed away in October so it has a lot of sentimental value. Thank you for your thoughts though.

I understand sentimental value. I have a 1994 Pontiac Gran Am that I got from my uncle who was going blind and had to give up driving. It’s hard to get rid of it.
Good luck with the conversion if you choose to do it.

I dont know if there is a fuel economy benefit, but as much as I like the manual. I really would rather have an automatic when it stalls in the middle of an intersection because I didnt smoothly shift from first to second. Doesnt happen often, but when it happens its always in heavy after work traffic.

yeah, I'd have to do some digging to see the fuel economy effects. Your right though, stalling out in the middle of an intersection is embarrassing. Thank you for your insight.

Yeah, to me, no amount of money can replace my truck.
And I like manuals better the auto's but I want to make sure I don't dig into something that I can't finish. So thank you for responding.
