Vacuum Gauge

I want to get a vacuum gauge for my truck. Does the gauge connect directly to the intake manifold or though a vacuum line in the dash? Does anyone have pictures how they mounted them?

I don't think there are any vacuum lines in the dash besides the ones for the climate control. You would have to tap into a line under the hood or use a empty port if there is one.

for the line i just found a vacuum line under the hood and used a T connector. not sure if its the most accurate vacuum line but it does the job

I was looking at vac gauges on ebay last night(great minds think alike....lol)! You want it to be directly off the manifold for accuuracy. I plan on taping into the booster line when I get one.

I Like that gauge, where did you get it? The only ones I can find are vacuum/pressure. I would have to keep the gauge cluster black in my truck, it would be very hard for me to match the interior which is a greyish blue.

This gauge illustrates why. By watching vacuum you can get better economy.

a vacuum guage is also one of the best ways to properly diagnose an engine problem. i used one (this was a hand held) to set the timing and carburator idle on our 66' Fairlane and also on my 93 F-150 when the engine was going bad. it can determine a lot of things but as u can see it helps with economy as well.

basically an engine produces maxinium vacuum at idle. when the engine is at WOT, vacuum drops. keeping the vacuum high (as seen in the guage link) will yield best economy as the engine isnt working as hard.

you can put it wherever you want your vacuum source to be. i'd say brake booster line.
