Remote keyless entry?

Purchased a 99 Ranger s/cab XLT. It has power windows and locks. I was wondering how you can tell if it has the capability of remote entry? I don't want to get a remote key fob and find out it does not have this option. Thanks.

its not going to work with just a remote entry key...you have to buy an entire kit, which includes a receiver.

Most people here, as well as myself, will recommend that you get a viper system, here is a link to a standard keyless entry. You can look on their site if you want stuff like remote start. Viper - Viper 211HV 1-Way Keyless Entry System

Any 99 Ranger with factory power locks should also have the RAP module which is the receiver for the Remote Keyless Entry. Verify that the replacement fob is compatible with a 99 Ranger because they are not all the same. Junkyards sell used Ford RKE fobs on eBay for cheap and usually give the year and model ranges in the auction blurb. Program the RAP to recognize the new/used fob(s) per the instructions in the owners manual and you should be good to go. See my signature for a link to online manuals if needed.

I have 02 ranger edge and found out I had keyless entry when i noticed the park lights flashed when I closed the doors (when doors where locked.) Any ford dealer should be able to tell you by your vin number the owners manual gave me programing instructions I don't know if this will help you or not good luck

If you have power windows and locks, I'm about 95% sure you have a keyless entry module. For your model (1999) the RAPS (remote anti-theft personality module) is in the back of the cab behind all the interior panels. I saw one in 1999 and it was a white color plastic box with a metal bracket bolted to the back of the cab. It should have two pieces of foam around it. Since these boxes are the same as Explorers (similar years) you can grab a fob from one of those if you can, probably more abundant. To activate the new key fob. Turn your ignition on and off 8 times, leaving it on the 8th time (should be done pretty quickly, may have to try multiple times). Your door locks should cycle (actually this is the best way to tell if you have a RAPS module). Then press one of the buttons on the fob to sync it up. And thats about it.

i have a 02' ranger. I don't have buttons to lock or unlock the doors on the door itself. But, when i turn on the key after getting in the doors lock. Then unlock when I turn the key off. Does anyone know if this is a Ford option or is this some aftermarket option added from what looks like an aftermarket alarm that seems to be hiding up under the dash???

Take it apart and clean it, rubbing alcohol should do the trick.

Make sure the buttons are not being depressed all the time.
