Remote Start and bypass modules..
Hey guys, so I went to a few different places today to get quotes on installing my new remote start system. Went to Best Buy and Circuit City, they both wanted $200 for the whole install, but the guy at Circuit City told me I needed a bypass kit before they could install it. Best Buy said I needed nothing else to install it.. What's the deal?

FYI i paid $220 for labor and bypass, so $200 sounds about right. Look at ur dash gauge when the truck is turned of, and the key out of the ignition. if you have a red flash "Theft" light, then you need the bypass. As for the key i will find a pic for you.
https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ead.php?t=4829 If ur key looks like any one of them in the first picture then you have the PATS system and need a bypass.
Your key has a chip in it. So the key itself is spendy because you have to have one key in a remote box with a wire that wraps around the ignition key slot. Then a ribbon inside the remote box reads that chip in the key and makes the truck think there's a key in the ignition and starts and runs the truck for 20 mins.. Hitting the brake will decrease that time and kill the motor.
I've got an autopage system with remote start. I think my gf paid lie $250 or something including the key, but that's because I know people lol
Here's the key difference
Pre 01

And here's the key where they started chipping the keys

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the impression I was under

ahhh ****, that means one of two things.
1. they put my spare key in a remote box somewhere and i lose the use of my spare. cost= 70
2. they put a bypass kit in. cost = 120
plus the labor, which is 200.
uhhhh. wow. lots of money.

Yah that's what I have...
Except my truck never wants to start.. I've had 2 boxes in my truck and tried going back and forth between a new key and an old key and still all it does is flash theft... Telling me that it thinks there's no key in the box which means no key in the ignition (virtual)

hey guys, so I got my alarm installed yesterday. I love it, but a couple of problems I have with it now are:
1. The alarm keeps going off and my pager says "door open". I don't know if you guys can help with it, so I'll probably just go back to BB and ask them to check it out.
2. I think you guys can help with this one. I'm trying to hook up my train horns to my aux input on my alarm and I don't know where I should wire it up to (my horns are hooked up to my stock horn wiring). Anyone know where I should wire it up to?

Go back, explain this to them, make them fix it, and ask for some install money back since you had to explain how to do their job.

It's the new Crimestopper model. Yeah, I have like 3 manuals that came with it.
I'm going to make them fix the alarm going off, wire up my horns ( do you know what's involved in wiring it? like, where to wire it up TO?) and fix my parking lights to flash when i lock/unlock.
the guy who i talked to first to get it installed seemed like a really knowledgeable guy, very nice, and everything. but i guess he left halfway through and some other guy did my truck. kid seems like a dumb **** and he's a d!ck. hopefully the first guy will be there tomorrow when i go back.
