Replaced ignition lock cylinder but no workie
In my son's '97 Ranger, I replaced the ignition lock cylinder because the door chime would sound even without the key. Also, the cylinder would not unlock with the key inserted.
Today, once I installed the new cylinder, I cannot get the key out! PLUS, it still will not turn in either direction. The cylinder works properly when removed and tested in hand.
Any suggestions?
I have to get this thing running again before the weekend is over, so my son will have transportation for work.

Did the new cylinder come with a new key? I'm assuming your 97 Ranger has some sort of passive antitheft (chip in the key), so perhaps you used the original key in the new lock cylinder without having a locksmith change the tumblers in it to match your old key...
If you used a new key that may have come with this ignition cylinder, it has to be programmed to the passive antitheft (PATS) system of your truck, and that requires two keys already programmed in order for you to do it. But first it obviously has to be able to turn in its ignition switch.
In googling "how to install a new ignition switch in a ford ranger", I found several youtube vids and articles on how to install. Seems like you already know this though, as you have removed the cylinder a few times from the sounds of you post. Perhaps the cylinder sleeve itself is bad/worn in the steering column?

I've spent enough money on this crazy project. If I spend any more, it's going to cut into my hunting budget.
With the lock cylinder removed, you should be able to insert a flat blade screwdriver or similar tool into the gear and turn the it through its full range (acc, off, on, start). If it will not rotate, then the problem is either in gear/rack or in the ignition switch itself.
