Replacing the turn signal switch

Hi all, first post!

I'm a professional technician and have a 2000 std cab, step side bed, 2.5, auto trans XLT Ranger. Shop customer ran it until the timing belt popped and I bought it from him because I needed a hauler. I pulled the head and did a bunch of overdue maintenance/repairs and I'm thrilled with this Ranger. Unusual bright green metallic color with tan cloth interior. One thing that bugs me is the way the turn signal lever hangs down and I bump it as I get in/out of the truck. As a tech I see many Ford products with t/s levers that are shaped differently.
Anyone know if there's a direct replacement from, say, a Windstar, etc. that will bolt in but have the t/s lever positioned higher on the column? TIA!

Congrats on the truck! You'll love your Ranger. Being a technician, this tidbit shouldn't be of any surprise to you, but I'll say it anyway. "Take care of your Ranger, and it'll take care of you."

I know sometime in the mid-2000s, Ford decided to 'mirror' the bend in the stalk, but at the same time it appears they did some rewiring as well. 2004 I believe, as this is when they started playing with the Ranger, mostly it's electrical system more-so than the body or drivetrain components. I don't know what all they changed, but it isn't a simple plug and play swap, unfortunately. I don't know of any other Ford products around the era which have what you want, but it wouldn't surprise me if that did exist.

You could attempt to disassemble the original multifunction switch and a newer model, the goal being to fit the original guts into the newer housing. A similar thing has been done, but rather utilizing Lincoln multifunction switches as the new housing for the original guts. This is mostly done for flair, but as it doesn't swoop downward, you might find this to be what you need.

Hopefully whatever you plan on hauling with this Ranger isn't too substantial. The 2.5 was the weakest engine that the Ranger was offered with. The 2.5 was meant to be the economy engine out of the options available. But hey, if you run across another Ranger with the 4.0 in it (preferably 01+, or better yet 03+, due to design improvements), you can swap engines and wind up with a hot little ride.
