rough idle and bucking
rough idle and bucking
Hey guys, so Google has brought me here many times for answers to the illnesses to my Ranger and always I see helpful posts, but today I have signed up (yay!)
So I'm totally new and I don't know where to post but I think I saw something similar here.
My girl has been rough idling on and off, I drive 2 km to work and sit in it on my breaks, only about once a month do we ever go anywhere so I figured carbon buildup or something, take her out for a spin. Well 5 minutes into the drive she's acting like she's gonna die as I'm trying to accelerate from a 60 to an 80 zone ... lurching, sputtering, acting like it's gonna die. I know it's not the alternator or battery, and can't be the rear end or tranny as those are pretty new and she does it sometimes parked idling. She was lurching so bad on acceleration that I turned around and went home. Any suggestions before I head to my Ranger Doctor? I like to be armed before I make the call. TIA

Welcome to the forum
Yes, it always helpful to include Year, engine size and transmission type with any questions, there were many different combinations in each year of Rangers
For rough idle and stumbling
Clean MAF sensor
Use a can of fuel injector cleaner(Seafoam) in the gas tank, once a year for this
Change fuel filter every 5 years or so
Change Spark plugs, only use regular copper or Double platinum, never single coating spark plugs

I think I got it... I was nearing the bottom of the gas tank (under1/4) when it started, and when it was fine in the morning after gassing up it hit me - probably condensation in the tank. Thanks for the forum tips, I do appreciate them.
