Hello, I'm new here. I just bought a 1995 Ranger 2WD, 2.3, 5 speed. Good solid truck with a couple of minor issues.

One is a check engine light which the seller told me was related to a sensor on the timing belt. He said it was on the back of the timing belt cover, under the AC compressor but didn't remember what it was. The engine had an occasional miss and he unplugged this sensor and put a jumper in and that fixed the miss but did not turn off the light. I just bought the car today, so I have no idea what codes are set yet (BTW, does this have an OBD II port?) but I'm curious what sensor is in that area so I can actually replace it and plug it back in.

Can't really see it without getting under the truck. On another forum someone said it was probably the cam position sensor, this diagram shows it and seems to make sense.




The previous owner did mention that he thought it was a crank sensor or something., so the cam position sensor makes sense.

I should get under there, plug it back in, read the codes and then reset them to see what comes back up. I also learned that, although OBDII was implemented for 1996, many if not most of the 1995s had it as well.
