squealing noise from engine
squealing noise from engine
So i just had my serpentine belt, tensioner and pulley, and idler pulley changed on my 2005 3.0 ranger with 158k on it, due to a squealing noise.
The sound had disappeared right after installation, but has now came back , though quieter. I also changed my alternator a year ago, so confident it is not that.
I was assuming it was the belt making the noise and went ahead and changed the idler and tensioner for good measure and expected that to cover all angles, but it has not.
What else could be making the squealing noise? I have no AC unit.
Power steering pump or water pump?
Thnx Boys

Are you sure its from the belt and not something else? On a stone cold engine remove the belt and run the truck for no more than 2 minutes (no water pump hence no more than 2) and see if your squeak is there or not. Shut the truck off then spin all the pullies and see if you hear a squeak.
Or what i do to isolate what side of the belt is making noise if its a belt issue due to glazing is i take a piece of bar soap (ya know the free things from hotels) and with the engine running let it rub the outside of the belt and then the inside ribs - let it ride long enough to coat the entire belt and wear down into the grooves in the inside. Clears up any belt squeaks instantly and probably free but doesnt last long/. Long enough to figure out whats happening. If your squeak is still there most likely bearing on somethign failing.

2002 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 4x4 High pitched Squealing sound
Been hearing this high pitched sound. i cant tell due to the echo where the sound is coming from, but most of the time it is sounding like it is coming from the rear diff. it only makes the sound when im in 2 wheel drive and only going about 10-15 mph. I have read different posts about this issue but havent found the solution to the noise. If there is anyone that has come across a solution or a way to fix this problem text me at 843-697-7553 or email me at hazzeikrazee0@gmail.com
