Anyone Have a Whine That WON'T STOP
I have a whine on my truck that I cannot trace down. I've replaced everythign that rotates on the front of the engine. I know it's there because I have taken off the belt and the truck doesn't make the noise. It's a constant whine that sounds like a supercharger. I've changed PS pumps with aftermarket units now I have a Ford one (haven't installed it yet), new alternator, a/c pully, tensioner, idler and water pump and still there. Any thoughts and no I"m dumb and havent' changed the belt but seriously a belt making a noise like that. Just seeing if anyone else had the same problem.

NO haven't tried a belt yet I will get one though just couldn't see the belt making that noise but honestly the money i've spent the 40 on a belt or whatever is worth it.I put a bit screw driver on everything and still sounds like the PS.pump to me I also used a Chassis ear on the the thing.

Ok I'm convinced on the belt gonna pick one up today.
Pumps are notorious for noise that's why that went first. Started it up with belt on and clutch fan off and it still whined so I elminated the clutch fan. I'm going to change the belt and fire it if it's not gone that Motorcraft P/S pump is going on it. If that doesn't solve it I'm going to take it to the dealer and let them marry themselves to the problem.
If they say it's the P/S pump I'll laugh and not pay for them installing another brand new one when it doesn't fix the whine.
Thanks for all the good suggestions. Confirmed my train of thought as well.

I had a whine on my 3.0L and Ford replaced the belt and every pulley but the tensioner so if it still whines before ford sells you a new "engine" as a fix to the problem you might wanna talk a closer look at the tensioner and definately go after market the aftermarket i have has twice the miles as the stock and is running great still.

1st things 1st, always replace the belt right off.......it'll clear that out of the way if the whine or squeak is still there after the swap. It's also cheap and easy to do.
There should be a sticky that explains this.........oh wait, I think there is....and a million posts in the search.

Ok so replaced belt it was still there, then replaced the pump with the Motorcraft one and WALA whine is gone BUT now there is a distinctive PS noise like the classic for noise plus the fluid after just a few days has a metallic look to it. :(
Next on the agenda.
New pump and new rack AND FLUSH THE EVER LIVING S&*T OUT OF THE LINES. That'll stop it.
Thanks for all the help along the way there guys.
