Squirrel ate gas tank

Squirrel ate gas tank

Tank leaking where critter chewed white plastic plug on rear wall of black plastic gas tank. Is this plug replaceable? Where would I get it. The plug is about half way up rear wall of tank. See pics. Need info ASAP. Tank leaks seriously when more than half full.

I couldn't tell you exactly what the piece is called, but you may try browsing on clipsandfasteners.com, they may have what you're looking for.

I'm not sure of the name of it either. Maybe some sort of grommet will work? Idk.

I don't see it on this diagram. Maybe pick one off of a junkyard truck?

This is a cap/plug that is about 3" in diameter.

Ever heard of "don't judge a book by it's cover?" Same applies here. That site has all kinds of caps, plugs, fasteners, clips, and other odd and ends. I was just trying to give you a place to start. Show it to a dealer and let them get it for you, or go to a JY if you don't want to look for it online.

yes 3" grommets exist...
Just go to a junkyard and pull one off of a truck like i said before. You probably won't even be charged for it

For those that live in areas where "critters" like to chew on stuff, put a bead of silicone (from a tube that you use for making gaskets) on the surface. Critters don't like this stuff. A roofing friend of mine told me about this trick; roofers will put a bead of it on the lead tube covers you have on your roof (vents for the bathroom). The squirrels and other chewing critters will not chew on it.
