Steering wheel replacement question

I have a 98 with cruise control, and my pods are half broken off. I say half because i think there are two bracket arms to hold them on and they are only being held on by one now. it has been that way since i got the truck, Anyways I am looking to either replace the pods (because also when cold, the rubber doesn't flex enough to allow the buttons to be pushed) with then newer button style cruise controls or upgrade my steering wheel (something leather maybe?) I was browsing on ebay and came across a wheel from a 93 escort, does anyone know what kind of problems i might have trying to switch these out? or any recommendations on a better plan of action?

thanks in advance

I can get you some pods if you wanted them. They won't be brand new but they wont be broken. you'd have to swap the entire column to upgrade to a newer steering wheel and you may run into problems with the airbags, the connectors aren't the same so the wiring is also different. What does interchange is the airbag itself. I put an airbag from an 03 into my 99 just for the blue emblem on the center of it lol

Ok, thanks for the info, very helpful. I am still wondering about switching out the pods just for the newer styled buttons, does anyone know if that is even possible? Just an idea, i haven't really looked into it much

If your talking about the 04+ wheel, I know it fits as the column is the same. I am just not sure if you would to change anything else.

I went out to look at it, the top bracket of the pods are snapped on both sides, unless i could get a really good price for a nice 04+ steering wheel (for a whole new wheel i would look to upgrade to leather wrapped) I am thinking just replace the pods now

Can you guys get me some pictures of those pods you have? I am still looking for some. Are the ones you have pretty flexible? My broken ones get really hard to push when its cold out.

You have an '04+ wheel on your truck? The airbag works too?

No, the column is the same. I doubt the air bag will not function but it may have different plug.
