Stock horn problem
Stock horn problem
The money pit strikes again!
I recently discovered that my horn sounds wierd, but i remember reading something awhile back about the 01-03's have two horns instead of one. Could it be a horn went out? We have had A TON of rain and it do happen to go out during a flash flood. The sound is now like a honda (Sounds weak). Do i need a replacement? Should I take a look at them? I dont even know where they would be located.

this happenned to my truck, i'm pretty sure one of the horns went out. you could barely notice it from another car. it sounded kinda raspy. I'm not sure but i think we took it to the ford dealer. Its super loud now, louder than most horns i hear. your probably right, i bet one of the horns went out.
i THINK theyre located somewhere behind the grill, not sure ill go look and see if i can find it

yes, the 01-03s (atleast) have a dual horn set up. If one of the horns goes out it will sound messed up or very high pitched. Unless you are under regular warranty ford will want to charge you $120 for a new one (the extended warranty wont cover it). My advice is to just goto a auto parts store and buy one from there.. much much cheaper
I was checking out my horns the other day. I don't have the stock bumper and such but I think it'd make life alot easier to remove the grille shell. There should just be a pos+ and neg- to hook up. Not too complicated.
If I remember right they're two horns in one assembly located on the passengers side header panel between the grill and right headlight. You'll need to remove the grill, filler panel, and the rad. duct. Then remove the one bolt in the center of the horns and pull wiring connector. Pull the horn out towards the drivers side. Its a little bit of a PITA, as there not much room to work.
