tire pressure light issues
tire pressure light issues
I keep my 2007 Ranger serviced very well, and habitually check tire pressures monthly. I bought it new and special order through fleet back in june 2006...........
While I did recently have all tires changed to new ones, this issue I write about here was happening before the change.
What is happening here is quite randomly now, After driving some distance, like about 15 to 20 miles from parked, my tire pressure light flashes for like 40 seconds, then stays on. After a drive cycle, it flashes again and stays on. Some of these times it comes on, it goes out while in the same drive cycle. Then, sometimes comes right back on again. It comes and goes very randomly. Other than removing the instrument cluster, and putting black tape over the unremovable light, I cannot simply afford to have the dealership do a recalibration or whatever its called, or try using the reset/learn tool which I do have yet never used.
.......maybe theres a setting in forscan to 'disable' the monitoring, and keep the light off permanently??.....................
Tell me please, what is happening here with these random flashings?

On Sept. 1st 2007 any car or light truck was required to have TPMS, Federal law
If yours is a 2007 Model year then there won't be a disable for it, except for a piece of tape over the light, lol
You need a Ford TPMS tool to do a reset and relearn, but they are not expensive, maybe $20
Try this for re-learn procedure: http://www.thetpmsforum.com/showthre...eset-Procedure
The TPMS sensor was suppose to be mounted 180deg from valve stem on rim, just FYI
If the same tire won't respond, after 2 tries, then its sensor has most likely failed, causing the TPMS light

okay ron, i do have a ford tool, and instructions in my ranger worshop manual on how to do reset and relearn. but can you explain here why it comes on flashing, goes off, all randomly. ive looked at my trip meter and it seems to happen only after ive driven like 15 to 20 miles after a new drive cycle. but never before then. if there is a failed sensor, wouldnt the light stay on permanently? --all wheels, including the spare, have sensors installed, (tho i know that the system can only read four sensors) and are original equipment and installed by a ford technician at the local dealership. so theyve been installed correctly.
Flashing TPMS light indicates a malfunction, steady light is low pressure, but once it flashes it can just stay on even if pressure is OK
Could be battery is failing in a sensor??
Sensors go to sleep and don't wake up until tire speed is above 20MPH or so
And they only send a signal every 60 seconds or so
So you could have a battery that gets enough voltage back when asleep but voltage drops low enough after driving a bit, 20 minutes/20 pulses, to set off fault
Just guessing
If you can read Body codes then that may point you in right direction
B106A - Faulty Pressure Sensor Signal (range bit)
B106B - Low tire pressure sensor battery
B2477 - Vehicle Security Module not configured correctly
B2868 - Left Front Tire Pressure Sensor Not Found (requires VSM relearn procedure)
B2869 - Right Front Tire Pressure Sensor Not Found (requires VSM relearn procedure)
B2870 - Right Rear Tire Pressure Sensor Not Found (requires VSM relearn procedure)
B2871 - Left Rear Tire Pressure Sensor Not Found (requires VSM relearn procedure)
B2872 - Tire Pressure Sensor Fault (activate sensors with tool and do VSM relearn procedure)
C2780 - ECU in manufacturing mode (requires VSM relearn procedure)

I see. Thank you Ron. I think I will just open the instrument cluster and put tape over the light and keep checking pressure monthly. If I had the hardware, I would remove the tires from all five wheels and remove the band and sensor from the wheel; and reassemble the tires to the wheels.
The technology seems more appropriate for owners who just can't think to check their pressures monthly. More that then notifying of a punctured leaking tire by nail or screw.
Ohh well...

i am also gonna try using forscan, as i saw a youtube video of someone using forscan to disable the pressure monitor. i will be using the trial exented license, and maybe this disable feature will be more prominent in the extended license than free version.
well ron, i did check, with the latest version of the program and the trial license version and unless im missing something, i dont see it in the options. i will hafta watch the video again...
heres the link, there may be more detail ive missed....
