Ok so I think its about time to change my transmission oil, but im getting it done at a place. So have a couple questions. My brother and I changed it 2 years or so ago, and well i think we use synthetic, I cant remember. too far back, it was a huge mess, think we mixed it with regular tranny fluid too because it came out of the gasket seals and all...cant remember fully. BUT my main questions are:
if I take it to a place, do they flush it, and put new stuff in?
is it bad to go synthetic to regular with tranny?
do places offer synthetic? am i just bsing myself and there is no synthetic? i completely forgot....
Im not sure how to go abouts all this, and I want to get it done before winter starts...Cannot do it myself, it was a pain and super messy. We messed up haha. Thank you for reading, probably do all this next friday or so when I get paid.

There going back and forth is not a big deal, Mercon V should be a syn blend anyway.

Amsoil and Mobil 1 have synthetic atf, expensive options when your talking 3 gallons or so of the stuff.

BTW if you get a flush they wont change the filter. Not a big deal unless your fluid is super dirty and burnt.

 

You would be much better off doing it yourself! I know you have before but you'll do it better than what a shop will do because they don't replace the filter like blhde said and I doubt thwey clean out the pan either. I have Mobil 1 synthetic ATF but that's because my trans is new. The shop had about a 200 gallon tank that said "Universal Mobil 1 Syn" not sure if that's a bad thing

 

Mobil 1 ATF covers many domestic cars, I have some in my power steering. Its good stuff.

FWIW, 3 gallons of AMSOIL is 150 plus shipping. Not a bad price if you plush at home. The trans holds 10.6 quarts for reference so the shop will charge you for fluid over a normal amount you would see in a car.
