Turn signal and hazard
Turn signal and hazard
Hey. I have a 1996 Mazda B4000 4.0L. Someone gave me this truck and I have been working on it to get to road legal. I cannot figure out what is wrong with my turn signals and hazards. I have replaced the multi switch, hazard signal flasher and double checked all relays and fuses. I have changed all bulbs also. I changed the connector for the multi switch also. I changed the ground wire for the hazard signal flasher.
It’s a weird problem to me. No turn signal will flash. The passenger side will stay on when the switch is flipped to that side flasher will buzz. Hazard will not come on to flash. When I turn on the hazard the passenger side will do the same. The light only stays on with the front. The rear does not come on when the front does. All four park lights get power to them when the park lights are turned on for the front. Headlights work correctly. I also replaced the pigtails for headlights because someone along the line spliced extra lights into them. Brake lights work correctly too.
I’m getting at a standstill with what else to check besides re wire the whole system. Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum
Wiring diagram below
The front park and turn share a dual filament bulb, so use the same ground wire
The rear turn are separate bulbs
Trailer light wiring can cause all sorts of issues and a 1996 Ranger has probably have several people working on trailer light wiring, lol, just a HEADS UP
I would start with the turn and 4-way fuses, one has full time 12v the other key on 12v, pull the fuses and test their contacts, one side should have 12volts, the other side goes to the flasher connector
Then go to the multi-function switch connector and see if the fuse 12volts is making it to those 2 wires at the connector, light blue wire and white/red wire
The flasher passes both wire's 12v when present at the flasher, so when activated the light's amp draw cause flasher contact to heat up and separate then reconnect after a second or so, so lights flash on and off
No 12v then no lights, and "new" flasher is bad, test flasher connector for the 2 wires with 12volt from the 2 fuses
You need 3 regular bulbs on each turn side or working bulbs will just come on and not flash, this is why LED bulbs cause issues
If you have 12v on the wires from flasher at the connector then test the OUT to bulbs wires for each side
Jumper wire from 12v turn flasher wire to white/blue wire and right side turn lights should start to flash
Do the same for green/white wire and Left turn side should flash
If both side work OK then "new" multi-function switch is bad
If some lights come on and don't flash then one of the bulbs is not connected or burnt out, find out which one
Once you have the turn system sorted the 4-ways will work, they share the same 2 wires OUT to the 3 bulbs on each side

Thanks for the welcome and the help. I went through what you said above. I had voltage all through to the multiswitch. My dad was looking at trailer hook up and he said it still looked like it was all factory. He disconnected it while looking at it. The only flasher that I could get to work was the front passenger. The other three lights wouldn't flash. But interesting enough, the headlights would flash while the hazards was turned on along with the front passenger turn signal. But would only flash when the headlights were turned on. I even pulled the fuse in engine bay for the head lamps and it would still flash. I didnt get any voltage to the other turn signals. There is no apparent splicing or tampering with any of the wires along any of the wiring harnesses. The dual filament bulbs are good. I swapped them with the brake lights.
Head lights flashing means the problem is in the multi-function switch, thats the only cross over where turn and head lights wires are near each other
So with multi-function switch connector off...................
Do you do the jumper wire between flasher 12v and OUT to tail light wires?
So with multi-function switch connector off...................
