URGENT: Efan Problem

I got my efan installed and wired up a little bit ago. I started my truck and the fan turned on istantly. It ran for a while and then the 30amp fuse popped. I replaced that and then restarted the truck. Nothing happened. I turned on the ac to see if that would make the fan turn on. Still nothing. I adjusted the temperature on the controller and still nothing turned on. I checked my wiring and it's fine. I double checked that I put the right wires where they belonged. I did have the temperature sensor in by the radiator by the outlet, but then moved it to the inlet side. Still nothing happened and the fan didn't turn on. Please help me because my truck isn't drivable and I have school soon. Thanks in advance.

Did you cut out the fuse by the controller? It's notorious for blowing.

Pics of that here

FWIW, I have driven with no fan for few days while i was rewirng my efan. The truck never overheated. As long as your not in stop and go traffic you should be ok.

Check the controller and see if it looks melted, if your wiring is correct the controller maybe faulty.

Thank you for the help, I really appreciate the service. I'm still trying to figure the whole thing out, possibly my sensor location. But still the fan should kick on with the ac right? Because thats not even happening. The fuse that blew was the main power one, not the add-a-circuit. The 30 amp fuse is only ~6 inches away from the positive terminal on the battery. I attached the controller to the side of the power distribution block. I ran the green wire to the gray/white wire on the a/c compressor. The orange wire went to the red/positive wire on the fan. I grounded both black wires. The one from the fan and the one from the controller. I ran the yellow wire into the cab through the grommet for the hood release. I ran it to the fuse panel and used the add a circuit and put the new one in Slot 28. It's for the radio/gem. A question I had was, the new circuit thing, it's got a fuse already in it, but also has a slot for another. Do I put the old 7.5 amp fuse in with the 10 amp already there? Well I tried both, neither worked. I let the truck run until it was at "operating" tempature and played with the dial on the controller, nothing happened. Also the a/c still doesn't turn to fan on. I'm out of ideas, and the power wires seem to be secure, I checked them at the battery and both butt splices. Everything seems to be in order. I'll check once again in the morning. Could the relay on the controller have gone bad? If its just like the blower motor relay I have a few extra of those so I might try replacing that and seeing what happens.

My suggestions...but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Cut out the fuse on the main power wire, not the add-a-circuit. Reconnect wire with butt connectors

Double check all connectors, use butt connectors

Double check groundings.

I grounded here

Well my controller came with the updated fuse. It's closer to the battery and since I replaced the fuse nothing has happened. If I cut the fuse out whats protecting the fan or the whole controller?

There is another fuse by the battery on mine. It came with two in-line fuses. I didn't realize you had the new updated controller, so you only have 1, then leave it.

I guess re-check all connections, ground. Swap out the new controller Jusnes is sending to you. Unless someone else can comeup with something, I'm out of ideas.

Ok, well I appreciate all your help. I'll make sure all the connections are secure tomorrow/ in the morning. I guess the controller might be bad but still I'm going to try one of the other relays.

I have read this will cause the fan to fail sooner than it should. You should tap the purple wire form the hvac controls. You can find it under the hood if you split open the engine harness. (I have not verified that on the SOHC but it is on my 99 OHV)

By wiring the fan to the purple wire, the fan will be on whenever the ac system is on. Not jsut when the compressor cycles.

But this should not effect operation of the contoller. Get a volt meter and measure the voltage at the fan positive lead to verify the controller is dead. If it reads 12v+ you may have a fried e-fan.

As long as your heater works I woulndt worry about driven it, just be prepared to pull over if the temp gauge is climbing.

I'll check everything out today. I'll check it with a voltmeter and maybe I'll run the wire into the cab and connect it to the purple wire instead of the gray/white one on the compressor.

I'm about 95% sure the controller is bad. The controller is made for 2 fans. The orange wire that was connected had no power regardless. The blue wire had power all the time regardless if the truck was running or not. All the grounds are good and I double checked the connections. Hopefully that controller gets here soon....

Bob or Chris..did you send it the same way you sent the fan? Hopefully it gets here monday so I can either get it fixed or put the old fan back in.

Well if I could I would....hopefully it just gets here so I don't have to put the old fan back in. If I do wind up and put the old fan back in where can I get new mounting pins if I decide to put the efan back on?

Go to the auto parts store and get a universal mounting kit, it will come with everything that you need and look exactly like what you installed it with the first time. They are like 5 dollars.

Dont worry about driving the truck with no fan. If your moving most of the time you wont have a problem. Just run the heater and watch the temp gauge.

FWIW the only time my fan runs is when I sit in the drive thru for more than 5 minutes.

Well if push comes to shove I guess I'll just drive it with no fan. Who knows though, I took it around the "block" (~10 miles) without the fan and it didn't even get hot. The only time the needle way approaching the H was when I let it sit in my driveway for about 10 minutes.

well yes and no. Most people have done this with no problems. I'm just the exception. So don't hesitate it's worth it. To me at least.
