Hey guys getting hella frustrated here. I put a new steering rack in 2 days ago and have been fighting like a **** to get this sucker bled out. Ive tried a few different things and nothing is working the air just keeps coming.

I put pipe tape and new seals on the lines so i cant imagine air is getting in. I've probably spent a total of 2+ hours over the last 2 days turning the wheel back and forth trying with both the engine off and on. after sometime or turning with the engine off it seemed like it was only bubbling when i turned to the left and the the right was no longer bubbling. The other weird thing is after turning for awhile if i start it the fluid gets real low in the pump so i add some but then if i shut it back off and turn with the engine off it pushes a bunch of fluid out and will bubble alot again.

Im effin pulling my hair out, what should i do? Its not even drivable sint the steering has bad flat spots. On top of all this After taking my truck in for a new alignment yesterday its worse than when i took it in.

 

Pipe tape isn't a sealant it is a lubricant allowing you to tighten pipes. It doesn't belong on hydraulic fittings. The hoses have o-ring seals as long as they are in good shape that is all the sealing you need. Over tightening them will crush the o-ring and cause leaks.

The engine needs to be running to bleed the air out. I usually drive circles in a parking lot for 10 minutes or so. I have not replaced a rack yet but I have changed the fluid a few times.

 

I usually turn the wheel full from left to right or vice versa when bleeding the PS. Or as Blhde says drive in circles. I believe the idea is to run it through full range of movement to help cycle out any air.
