I have a 1988 Ranger standard cab (03/88 on the door plate) which is not getting fuel pressure at the scrader valve on the fuel rail. I pretty much narrowed it down to a bad fuel pump, (not the relay) so I went online and ordered a fuel pump for a 88 ranger. It came in and I went to install it by removing the bed, which I read here is the preferred way of getting to it. When I pulled the old pump out, it looks nothing like what I received, and I can't get the new one in anyway. Even if I did, the angle looks different so it would not sit at the base of the tank. The position of the lines and power connector is different as well, although they are the correct connectors, just orientated differently. Take a look at this photo... the new pump is on top, the one that came out is on the bottom. Did I get the wrong pump from the site, or does my truck have a non-standard fuel pump for its model year? If its not a 1988 pump, what model/year is it so I can order the correct part? Thanks a lot!

 

From a quick research the one you received is for an extended cab. So it is the wrong one for your truck.
