Where to find brake caliper bolt specs?
Where to find brake caliper bolt specs?
Usually I replace bolts on things when I do work, especially on rust belt trucks and cars. Usually I just pull them off and take them to the hardware store and size them appropriately using grade 5 or grade 8, or metric 10.9 hardened. However, I am doing the brakes so I can't just drive the truck in the middle of the job and my motorcycle is laid up in the shop so I have to buy these bolts before doing the job. I still want to stick with hardware store bolts if possible because I don't wanna pay ford 7 dollars per bolt. I tried Dorman website but I don't get any specs. I need the two bolts that hold the caliper to the wheel hub, and also if you can think of any other bolts (I can't) that would be removed in the process I would also like to change those too.

They are a specialty bolt, head size/style and shoulder length.
The caliper bolt is a fairly common size used between many car manufacturers, auto parts store should have them in stock.
Here's the dorman info the correct bolt

Dorman doesn't show any for a 93
I went by the 99 listed in your profile, that's why it's important to list the year and other info in first post.

yeah my bad i wasnt expecting anyone to actually look it up for me. I was thinking someone would just point me the right direction and i would habdle the rest. Yeah i have a 93 2wd. I used to have a 99 4wd. Thanks for your help
so evidently the 1993 model year doesn't come with bolts that hold the caliper onto the hub. It uses these metal slide pins that you have to hammer out and then hammer back in. Never seen this before on a car or truck. It was a bit of a pain in the *** beating out the pins with a mallet and a screwdriver, and then beating the rusty caliper off the hub, but once you remove the caliper you are ready to undo the rotor. In most other cars there is a separate caliper bracket that you also have to unbolt first, and so the process is slowed down. Interesting setup.
