Window belt installation trouble

Window belt installation trouble
I went to my local junkyard and picked up a driver's side window belt from a 2000 ext. cab flareside (mine was missing since purchase). Removal was simple as the mirror was already off. Pulled straight up and it was done. Got home and tried to install it without removing door panel or mirror and couldn't get it to lock in place. I removed the door panel and mirror and tried again. Same result. The window belt will slide into position, but won't clip down far enough to seat against the door. With the clips locked into the holes there is still about a 1" gap between the belt and door. Are the clips supposed to push down past the holes? Do I need to use a BFH? Any thoughts?

I figured it out. The clips that hold the trim onto the door have three fingers, like a fork. The outer two fingers are straight and the middle finger is curved, towards the outside of the door. When I first attempted to install it I was trying to get the outer fingers to inside of the metal edge, and middle finger to go on the outside of the metal edge. This is not how it works.
All three of the fingers should go towards the inside of the metal edge, between the metal edge and the window. The curved middle finger will then hook into the rectangle openings in the metal edge. Simple.
