Windshield antennas

I don't know if any of you have seen these. My dads 76 Chevy has them and I was wondering if anyone has seen anyone put those on newer vehicles.

I know they sell universal kits, but I don't know the quality.

I removed my factory antenna for a cleaner look and I thought one of these kits could let me have radio reception without an antenna

Why not get a stubby? I don't think it makes it look cleaner with no antenna, but thats my two cents. Otherwise I am no help with the windshield antenna. lol

i had a windshield one on my old dodge neon. it was just a small box with 2 flat arms comming out, it was secured with double sided tape, you just run it's extra ground to the bodym abd it had a small power wire attached to an acc feed, then a super long cable to route along the headline, down the A pillar, and through dash to back of the radio. it worked awesome, best reception I have ever had in a vehicle.

I have it in a box now, ready to go into the ranger when I find my box full of ambition.

The one my dad has is just bare wire glued to the windshield going from the dash up and splitting and going to the opposite ends of the top of the windshield.

He gets awesome reception out of the farm and you really don't notice it. It's OEM btw, he didn't add it

my moms old oldsmobile minivan had one, and maybe the honda had one. i dont remember. but all other vehicles in the yard have regular antennas. and theyre all newer. not sure why more vehicles dont have them. but oh well. i dont even notice them until someone says something. who uses the radio anymore anyways?

A couple of new radio stations back then had not enough power output, and the reception was not good with the old antenna. Using the windshield one did pretty good.

I'm just thinking that one seems too cheap to work well.

But it's worth a try for $5

That's what I was thinking, it's cheap and easy to install. If it works, great and if it don't, well then at least it was worth a try.

Which ever one you chose, the wires should be as long as possible.
The ones that have the two wires running up the center and then off to the side have enough wire to receive a good signal in the Broadcast Bands but the one with the little side wings, that might not work well.
AND… as stated above, the price doesn’t give me a warm feeling, the coax should cost more than that.

Good luck with which ever one you choose and post the results, getting rid of the antenna could be a good idea IF there is a replacement that works.
