1992 Ford Ranger Door Sagging - Hinge Parts

Okay, firstly I'd like to apologize if there is a previous write up on this. I did search the forums for several different terms regarding this and didn't get anywhere.

I've been all around google and to all my local auto parts places and so far I have not been able to get a concrete answer as to this.

So the doors on both sides are sagging. This is the 2.3 xlt manual. I can see where the bushings are completely worn out, and so I have to lift the door every time I want to close it. I don't want to replace the entire hinge assembly, I'd just like to replace the pins and bushing. Of course the bottom hinge has a roller type mechanism, and the top is a standard pin and bushing.

Can anyone point to me to the correct parts or after market parts that will actually fit? I'd like to go ahead and replace both the upper and the lower at the same time. I've been all over the internet and in stores and no one seems to have a consensus about what the actual part kit is that will fit this year model. From 93 on up things seem much simpler. Thank you very much in advance, this is my first time to the forum and I am glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum! I don't know of any parts for a hinge, check rock auto. What you can do is open the door, loosen the bolts on the door side of the hinge, place a block on a jack and jack up on the open door and tighten the bolts. That will be a temporary fix until you find new parts or hinges. You also could also hit up pull apart and find exactly what you need.

If it's like my 99, there are no bushings to be had, you have to buy a new hinge, I got mine right from the Ford dealer, it came unpainted.
The pin " wears" right on the hinge itself, the only thing you can do to prevent the new one from wearing out is to keep them lubricated.

The odd thing is that rock auto shows a bushing kit with a new pin, but my old pin was not removable, it was permanently riveted in place.
Even if I would have drilled out the old pin, there was nothing left to install the bushing, it was badly "ovaled" out.

This is exactly how mine is too, it's riveted in. I guess I'll have to contact the Ford Dealership. Rock Auto shows the lower hinge as a full assembly but no mention of the upper, which is the one that's heavily worn on mine. They are completely different in design. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens at the dealership.

Alright, just got off the phone with the dealer.

Ford has obsoleted the upper door hinge, so it's not longer in production at all.
The lower door hinge is available, unpainted...

For $241.55!

Looks like junk yard will be the only solution at this point.

WOW !
I didn't pay that much for mine, I think around 60 bucks Canadian.
I have a Mazda 1999 B3000, but the Ford dealer still order parts for me _ same thing.
When I get a chance I'll take a photo of my old hinge and give you the part number off the box, if it's still there.
Even if you do find one at the wrecker, chances it will be worn out too.

Maybe the changed the hinge design, but I can't see them doing that.

Buy 1992 Ford Ranger Parts | FordParts.com (page 6)

There are price discrepancies for the same part number, but different years (1992 to 1999) _ doesn't make sense, but there you go.

You can also Google the Ford part numbers and after market stuff comes up too.
A hinge is a hinge and in this case the third party products are the way to go.

From your photos, your hinges look exactly the same as my 99 B3000.
I know the hinges are also the same on our Ford 2001 delivery truck as well.

Thanks for the help on the hunt. I'll dig into these as well... my frustration has been trying to find uppers that match what's on my truck. I'm guessing they just decided to update the design: in my photos the upper does not have a roller on the inside of the hinge at all, but all replacements I've come across labelled as the upper hinge do have them. I'm with you that a hinge is a hinge, and the bolt patterns to the body look the same, it's the part that bolts to the door itself that's different depending on which side it goes to. Thanks again for the help.

The roller holds the door open, and it works up against a semi-hard piece of rubber and a plate.
The rubber wears out and the roller doesn't do it's job anymore.
I don't think it matters if the roller hinge is on the bottom or top.

You could install two hinges with no roller on the top or bottom, but then you would a chauffer to hold your door open for you. :-)

On my B3000, the roller hinge is on the bottom, but I'm sure it would work just as well on the top.

Also know there is a nut on the inside as well, you will see once you get your new hinge.
When I took my lower one off, there is just enough room to get an extension in there with one of those universal type joint adapters (from the out side).
