2003 B3000/Ranger Rear Door release cable

OK, I just purchased a B3000 for my daughter and I have been trying to fix up a few things. Right now, my focus is on getting the rear suicide doors to open correctly. All four cables had the plastic parts broken off on both ends. I bought the aluminum replacement pieces, and that did help with the drivers side, but the passengers side are still not working. It appears the cables are bad and won't freely move back and forth within the sheath (not sure if that is the correct term). I have to force the door handle back in to make it work. From what I have read, you can not get the cable by itself, only with the door latches. So, I ordered the following two parts online (1F90-88-459A & 1F70-88-480B). 459A is the passenger upper and 480B is the lower. 459A arrived with the cable and latch and works great. 480B only contained the latch. I contacted both the dealership I ordered it from as well as the corporate Mazda office and neither can say whether or not the cable is supposed to be with it, so if I have them reorder it again it will probably come the same way.

I also contacted the local Ford dealership to see about getting a ranger part since they are basically the same. They gave me a part number of 8L5Z1326413A and stated they believe it does come with the cable. But, every search I have done for that part only shows the latch with no cable. So, I am hesitant to go that route also.

So, does anyone have any advice on what I can do to replace the passenger side lower door latch release cable.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks,
Mike

That is a very easy fix. Autozone has the Dorman kits. About $ 12 per side. You need about 4 rivets 3/16, and a rivet gun. I would advise you to also order a bag of panel clips from Amazon because you will break or stretch a few.

Have a mini pry tool on hand to reach behind the panel and carefully pry each panel clip. You will be surprised at whats broke. Its the cable ends. New ones are split aluminum.

I can get you the part # of clips, from Amazon if you need that.

When you are putting the panel back on, you will have the clips in the panel slots, and will be looking on an angle behind the panel trying to align with the holes. I put a small piece of blue masking tape over each hole then punched it out. So all i did was look for the blue.
