5x5 Beeping 98 Ranger
5x5 Beeping 98 Ranger
Hello, First I'd like to say I am new to the site and have never made a post. So, I bought a 98 4.0L ranger a couple months ago and have spent the time fixing it up and getting it running properly. If wanted, I could talk about what I've done with it although it was mostly just maintenance. Long story short I pulled apart and checked the cluster making sure my speedo was accurate and when I put it all back together my truck now does this obnoxious 5x5 beep. I've read on these forums that the problem was a burnt airbag light so I swapped it and still no dice. Disconnecting fuse number 2 works however it also disables the blower for my heater and A/C, so I'd prefer to actually fix the problem. I'm guessing I shorted something out but the wires all look fine, do you have any suggestions?

So does the airbag light come on now?
Here is the wiring for 1998 cluster
The Battery Light(charge indicator) and Air Bag light both get 12volts with key on from fuse 15, C216 pin 2
The Air bag module will see that 12volts passing thru the bulb on C216 pin 4, so it knows Bulb is Good
If it doesn't see the 12v then bulb is bad or no 12volts to begin with, and you get the chimes
Does Battery light come on with Key on?
It should
If not then thats the issue, AND your alternator is also OFF, so you are running on battery power
Check fuse 15, 7.5amp

Fuse 2 was back in for the test, right?
Well if the only thing you have worked on is the cluster wires then C216 pin 4 may not be connecting so no light and no 12v back to SRS, airbag module
12v---C216 pin 2----------airbag bulb------------------C216 pin 4----------------------------airbag module---Ground
Airbag module grounds the bulb to test it, turn it on, other wise it knows it should "see" 12volts there with key on when its not grounding it
That's why you get the chimes with burnout bulb, no 12v at C216 pin 4
If you have an OHM meter you can test OHMs between C216 pin 2 and C216 pin 4 should be under 50 ohms, that means bulb is OK

Fuse 2 was back in for the test.
And alright, I'll check out c216 pin 4 and C216 pin 2, thank you for the diagram. I don't have an OHMs meter on me but I've got a friend who does so I'll check that out. Could it be a faulty ground with the airbag module? It seems unlikely since I haven't messed with it, but that would just be my next guess.

Would be unlikely
