Anybody out there got access or know where I can find part numbers for the arm rest in a 2003 Ranger FX4 LII. This is the black armrest that comes w/ the bucket seats. I'm not sure if it's different for the LII than it is for the non-FX4s w/ buckets. I'm looking for what looks to be a two part assembly for the arm-rest. There is an upper, outter part that is the rest itself and then a back/bottom that screws on and has the hinge mount on it.

BILLZFX4: Great site, thanks for that. But it doesn't look to have part #s listed. I'm trying to confirm some BS I think my stealer is feeding me.
Dave: I'd really appreciate it if you could look this one up for me, if it's not too much. I was hoping someone like you would have a diagram or image and could visually confirm the part number against the part I'm describing. The link BILLZFX4 gave shows a pretty good diagram. I'm talking about "Part 16: Armrest assy" in that diagram.
I just had mine 'replaced' as well, mine was also broken. Although the ****** TOOLS at the dealer messed it up somehow. Either they broke it putting it in, or used a used part, because it was broken again last night before I picked up the vehicle. I'm so pissed I could pop a valve. Just got off the phone w/ the service manager for my stealership. He's going to order ANOTHER part for me and it'll be in in a week or so. I told him I'm just going to pick the item up at the parts counter, inspect it myself, and install it myself. I'm so sick of having my truck at the stealership and mooching rides off friends..
The kicker is I think they replaced the wrong parts! Although the new crack in the armrest is different (about 1/2-1/4 the size) of the old crack, so obviously they replaced SOMETHING. I also have what looks like overspray from body work all over the rest. It shows up quite well on the deep black.
I have the part numbers they ordered on a form at home. The invoice I have here is typical service department giberish, broken words/phrases and impossible to really read.
I think the part # I'm looking for is 1L2Z*10644A22*AAA or something like that. I'm not even sure that is the part number. It also says 'DOOR ASSY - GLOVE COMPARTMENT'. So I'm a little concerned that they don't actually know what the hell they are doing here..

Turns out we don't have very good access to part numbers around here, the service publications don't generally list them. I checked on that part and there is a place for the part number but it is blank. So I guess I am not even good enough to do that around here! If my life depended on it I could pull strings but... The parts people use different books than the tech people. Part numbers change too fast for them to rev the whole TSO catalog every time, I guess.
I can look at my invoice when I get home, but I don't know if the part number is on there either. The dealer did find it odd that Ford approved the repair, but if they are all breaking like mine did, I can see why they would authorize the fix.
The service at my dealer has always been pretty good. I really don't have anything to complain about.

Alright, thanks for looking anyhow. Maybe someone else around here will have an in and be able to help me out. I think there was a guy kicking around once upon a time who was a service tech at a dealership. I forget his handle now of course..
I've been love/hate w/ this dealer. The sale and such was great, which was more than I could say for some of the other stealers I visited. But service has been rocky. So far they've been pretty helpful, and hooked me up w/ a rental car on occasion, even though they insist it's entirely out of the goodness of their heart and not covered by Ford. Although they scratched the driverside door pretty good last year when doing the clutch work. And I'm pretty sure the shifter boots they just replaced were damaged when they worked on the T-case, as my problems started right about that time. And now this problem and confusion over a stupid arm rest! I think that's about the last straw. Once I get this issue settled I intend to 'forget' their number..
I keep hoping that this is the end of my waranty concerns so I can start having routine maintenence done locally at the corner shop, who I have more trus in at this point, ironically! But of course there is at least one potential waranty issue on my list everytime I'm due up for an oil change lately, so back to the stealership it goes. You'd think they planned it that way! :roll:

OFFROADERS: Disabling ABS while offroading
I'm not trusting my dealer all too well right about now. I suppose I could shop another dealer just for the part # info, but I was hoping someone here would have quicker access to the number. I actually hoped this would be a 2 min thing for Dave or one of all of you who have those Ford Tech CDs..
And I've owned worse, but it's been a while. In HS I had an '84 Buick Century. Biggest pile of junk I've seen or heard of! Completely turned me off to GM as a whole. But yeah, I'm not impressed w/ parts of this truck. It's serious love/hate for me. Parts I love so very much, vehicle of my dreams and all that, other parts have been a let down. Next one prolly won't be a Ford, if a pickup at all. Certianly not a Ranger.
But then I was hoping to avoid the 'next one' for quite some time. I went all out on this purchase, figureing it was the truck of my dreams. 4x4, power everything, cruise, buckets, supercab, etc etc. I had intended to keep the thing for 8-10 years if I could. That's one reason why I latched on to sites like these as I was primed for modding the hell out of it to make it absolutely perfect. Sadly I've had a lot of problems. And now I find myself potentially upside down in my loan and somewhat trapped. I may still sneak into a show room or two next spring and see how bad things really are. Even more reason to get the warantee problems fixed now, not matter how trivial they may seem..
Ran into a guy (Bob) in Centralia w/ the exact same truck down to the paint and month of manufacture. Didn't check the VIN, but I bet they were one after another off the assembly line. He's got a lot of the same problems I do. He's an ex-Ford employee too and had some insight on what is wrong w/ the LII package specifically. I think it's a question of volume. There just aren't enough LIIs out there to make proper development and fixes for all the issues we're seeing.
But I digress. Really shouldn't rant on and on about how disapointed I am..

If you just lookin for a part number you can go to the parts desk at another dealer and have them print out the exploeded view of the center console. Thats what I did with mine, it has the part numbers listed on it.... just a thought.. but I know how ya feel with dealers being a PITA! Seems when I tried to make a warantee claim they were dicks, but now no warantee and everything is great when I go to the dealer..... makes ya wonder....

Wow, so they exist?! ;-)
I dunno somedays. My LII + low range helped me pull a back-hoe out of a ditch (don't ask) this weekend, so I'm liking her today..
Oh, for the record, I had both shifter boots replaced last week (they were broken) and the tranny noise I have experenced is now MUCH better. It also shifts a bit tighter, I feels as if they might have done some sort of adjustment to the lever. Not sure if that's even possible. Either way, I'm happy(er).. ..for the time being anyhow!

Maybe it's just phychological! Maybe actually having the boot properly secured (rather than freely floating around) provides enough additional resistance to give me the impression that it is shifting better. Maybe once this new boot wears in I'll be experiencing more noise again. I'm going to go w/ the flow and enjoy it for now..
Edit: And Bob, I was refering to the transmission shifter. Although the t-case presently shifts smoothly and correctly. Although I don't shift it often enough to be able to comment as to if it is drastically improved or not.

I'm talking about the two bolts that attach the shift lever to the transfer case shifter. There are rubber grommets in there and if you tighten it up too much you compromise their ability to absorb vibration. They've apparently tuned the transfer case shift lever for maximum drivetrain noise transmission efficiency, so it needs all the isolation help it can get. You can also put a wad of peel and seal around the base of the lever to add some mass to it and retune it so it makes less noise.
Colin- Do your shifter boots make all kinds of squeaky noises while you are driving down the road? The plastic on plastic sound? I have a buttload of thick silicone on mine where they make contact with the trim, made a big difference.

My screws that mount that bezel to the floor are stripped too. When you move the shifter to a forward gear (1,3,5) the bezel moves too. The screw holes in the trim cover for the RCM (yes that is your airbag module) are stripped out too so that moves around. I need a new cover if I am to fix that. I used black magic thick silicone for tires to lube these things up so they would stop squeaking. Put some on the arm rest and center console where plastic pieces make contact.
The interior has just been taken apart by the dealer so many times in my truck that nothing goes back together anymore. These interiors are not designed to come apart and go back together. Slap em together and hope they make it out of warranty, that's how they do it.
It does make me feel better that my Audi also has one constant annoying dash rattle and that the hatch squeaks and rattles too. Quality, or the lack of it, seems to be an industry wide epidemic. Even my Honda has been to the dealer twice for repair in its lifetime.
