testing an ohc

Had a good day at Pick-n-Pull yesterday, got me an ohc and a domelight out of an expo,
both are in great shape, and the color of my interior (both for $28). Anyways my Question is that I tried to test the ohc, so I hooked up ground and power(not a good connection btw) and what happened is the ohc display came on and then turned back off, the display was garbled as well, is this normal? or is it because more wires need to be hooked up?

Recheck your connections. I bench tested mine before I installed it and a loose connection caused me some problems. And be sure that you are operating it correctly. If the mode button is pushed the right number of times, you will have no display lights.

Sorry, I failed to mention this was just a bench test also, my bad. anyway I got home from work yesterday, and hooked it up again, but when the screen went blank, I waited about three seconds and then it came back up and appeared normal, the day before I just unhooked the wire when it went blank, so I jumped the gun a little bit. I am assuming that it must come up all garbled like that and then re-set itself? I also hooked up power to the lamp and the temp sensor and it all appears to be working like it should, so hopefully the installation process will commence this weekend as I cant wait to get it installed, I am really stoked about it.
