Any ideas?

Hello all; i'm new to the forums and i'd like to say hello.

I've just bought a 1985 ford ranger for the sheer fact that it's a ranger, and i love the look of the 85's. The interior is...well there really isn't much to say of it other then i need to put one in.

Anyhow, i'd like to see what ideas you all have. So far i'm just wanting to get a bench seat with a built in console, but i may just get two bucket seats and a console; either way i want a console. The covering on the inside is torn apart and missing in some places; i've not yet decided with what i want to go with; though i'm thinking along the lines of vinal.

Anyhow...ideas?

Welcome to the site. Well what do you plan on doing to the truck is it going to be an off-road vehicle, show, or street? It's all personal preference alot of people do the 60/40 seat conversion i am sure someone will chime in and let you know what they did but like i said first what do you plan on doing with the vehicle

Thanks for the welcome.

Well i plan on converting it into a street type truck; it's only a 4x2 so i don't feel making anything for offroading would be a good idea. I'm trying to keep a certain look though as far as the image goes. I won't be lowering (well i may lower it a small bit but i really doubt i will) it since i want to keep the stock look to it but with a street mix into it.

So far the only real plans i have are molding my own tailgate to give alook of the original stock but without the words ford; i'm going to be cutting the center out and just welding on a piece of metal to make it look smooth, and then molding it so there aren't any edges; it's going to be an interesting shape. I also plan on making a roll pan (probably just buy one) and then i'm going to move the exhaust to push out the right side of the tail end of the truck.

This is all exterior body work, but the interior i'm sort of at a loss of any real serious ideas.

mayb some racing seats would set the interior off nicely there are guys with trucks on here with them in also you might want to change the title of the thread normally many more people would have posted by now.

www.lmctruck.com www.jcwhitney.com those are your best friends for older rangers... I wish you were closer I'd offer to swap doors for the 89-92 ranger. I want the 2 windo option of the gen1

I like all black interiors. my 92 will be all black, plastic floor (easy as hellto clean) black dash, black trim. I would either do it in tweed(kinda over played nowadays) or some kind of soft vinyl or leather or even suede if you can afford it. what color is the exterior or what color will it eventually be? got any pics?

On a slightly off topic note; some children in my neighborhood stole my side view door mirrors off the truck...i found that funny.

Hmm, maybe i will go with racing seats; not sure about that yet since i want something of a stock look on the interior...maybe i could find something in racing seats that could match though. Also; what title would you suggest?

--In reply to PickupMan92:

Ah, JC Whitney is a good place for finding the things i need; though i don't often buy from LMC.
Yeah, i can get some pics up for you later today; i just have to search for my camera. As i said about the interior...it's not really there. I mean it's got an interior, but i wouldn't consider it an interior...it's still in pretty much junk yeard condition. (I just got it like two weeks ago, i'm just now finishing rebuilding the engine, so i have't gotten to anything else.)

The dash cover seems to have been spraypaintd white; the interior carpeting (which is on the doors, roof of the cab, and the floor; all of which are peeling off or falling off) is a purpleish blue color. It's still got the original stock bucket seats, which i need to get rid of...a lot of burns from cigarettes and what seems to be bowl burns.

It's a good interior project to work on, but i just have nothing in mind as of yet; but the interior is what i want to start on first, before i get to the body since i'll be driving the truck to work.

I don't think i'll want to go with suede, it's not my thing. I was thinking of getting some black leather bench seats:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...003380/c-10101

This is more along thel ines of what i wanted for the seats; pick the black leather and put them in; simple fix and a nice look. I don't need independant sliding buckets since it's a standard cab and there isn't room for it; this will be a good adition...though it's a bit on the costly side for seats..but then again it doesn't matter, i've got the cash.(800 bucks)

This is the flooring of choice that i'll get for now. I will be getting something different later, but i'm going to make it myself. This thing is just something to have for now.

So basically black flooring and seats are what i'm set upon as of now. Both the seats and flooring i chose keep the stock look like i want but give it a better feel. The end paint job will be black with some yellow smoke designs in a sort of two tone pattern; it's hard to explain.

I know that you are planing on getting a bench w/ console and rubber flooring. But if you want to do custom it might be cheaper than you think, I got my standard bench seat reupholstered & repadded for $125. It is vinal and tweed closest colors to matching interrior that I could find, , I also had the headliner recovered by same guy don't remember price though. I also got my carpet from JC Whitney (please ignore the trash in floor it needs vaccuming out real bad). I will say that I had no luck with dashcaps though, and haven't found anyone that sells aftermarket pads.

Do what you want with your truck that's what makes it yours. Sounds like you have a good starting block for a project, it sounds like almost nothing is there and no history as far as you're concerned. In my case I grew up arround the truck so I want to keep it somewhat the same as I remember, that is what kills me about the V8 swap I'm plannin it has always ben a 5 speed but i can't afford the transmission I want to put behind the new engine so it will be getting an auto temporarily.

Hmm, maybe i will just get the seat re-upulstered. I wanted the console in the middle but i've found something else to do (suggested by my friend to just put in cup holers and a mini console somewhere in the dash)

I figure it will cost around 260 bucks to get my seas redone in black leather.
You're right about the truck not having any serious history.

One of the major plans that i have is to install the carpeting and seats in the bed of the truck, and put on a camer shell. Something like this:

http://www.gaylordslids.com/cruiser.php

I had a 1992 ford ranger awhile back but had to sell it; i had this put in the back and used it a lot. I figured i would bring back the old memories and what not.
As far as the flooring goes i'm still going for the vinal padding i picked out; but ifeel the 800 dollar price tag is a bit steep to have a console put into place.

That sounds interesting having a couch in the bed, never seen anything like that before. I have no idea what the leather upholstering would cost. But as I said above it is your truck build it the way you want it, and have fun with it.

Yeah, i was looking at some things to do to it. I have to keep it so that it can fold down; i won't be able to ride with the seat up considering i'm placing it next to the cab; there would be problems seeing out the back. I've not set on it yet though; still deciding.
