Hi all I have a 2008 Ranger with the 60/40 front seat. It has the fold down console/armrest . I am reupholstering my seats and took the drivers seat out today. I got the armrest off but am unable to figure out how to take the top cover of the console apart. I went to the Ford Garage and they new even less than I did, and neither did the 2 body shops that I checked with as they had never worked on one either. I really want to replace the upholstery on this console so it matches the rest of the interior. I just don't want to brake the plastic lid trying. So anyone got any Idea???? Thanks JohnB
Ok today I had time to visit with a friend. He has a salvage yard and if a Ranger fan. I took the armrest with me and together we got it figured out. I took some pics also . First the top cover has to come off. The hinge and cover are one piece so we just worked it from inside and pried it out. If you are able to warm it up some that will help soften the plastic and make it more pliable.. Once the top cover is off if you look at the rear under the hinge you will see 2 clips sticking up through the cover these will need to be pushed on to release. If your cover is in good shape as mine was there are 2 pieces of foam on the top. This foam hides 4 screws that need to be removed and Bam off comes the cover. So no big deal once you know where the screws are hid.
Well sometime things have a happy ending. Once apart it was normal upholstery. Was glad that I found out how to take it apart or else I would have been forced to leave the old upholstery on it.
2011 Ford Ranger - Center Console Lid Metal Replacement
@JohnB1953 i have this same style of center console, and this was super helpful in discovering how to remove the lid. My lid is plastic and cracked in the center but I think the doorman metal upgrade replacement is incompatible with our style. Am i correct? Have you seen a metal replacement for our style?
